Grounded by Gravity: A Well-Behaved Trade Model with Industry-Level Economies of Scale

چکیده
We propose a model to study the role of industry-level external economies scale in open economies. If elasticity governing strength is below inverse trade each industry, then specialization under frictionless consistent with comparative advantage, tractable even frictions, and all countries gain from trade. External lower gains except if country specializes industries high economies, they amplify further liberalization it leads low (JEL D24, F11, F12, F13)

Well-behaved Production Economies
We show that production economies are tâtonnement stable if consumers satisfy the weak axiom of revealed preference. To ensure that producer supply decisions are well defined, we restrict prices in the tâtonnement so that positive profits cannot occur but do allow supply decisions to be multi-valued. The model therefore permits linear activities and hence the technologies that admit capital the...
متن کاملWell-Behaved Model Transformations with Model Subtyping
In model-driven engineering, models abstract the relevantfeatures of software artefacts and model transformations acton them automating large tasks of the development process. It is, thus, crucially important to provide pragmatic, reliablemethods to verify that model transformations guarantee thecorrectness of generated models in order to ensure the qual-ity of the final ...
متن کاملScale Economies, Intra-industry Trade and Industry Location in the "new Trade Theory"
This paper exposes some common misinterpretations of the "new trade theory". First, the view that high scale economies give rise to high levels of intra-industry trade is challenged. It is shown that the monopolistic-competition trade model predicts a negative relationship between internal scale economies and intraindustry trade. Second, in spite of a common perception that the "new" theory exp...
متن کاملA Panel Data Analysis of South Korea’s Trade with OPEC Member Countries: The Gravity Model Approach
Abstract T his paper explains bilateral trade patterns between South Korea and thirteen OPEC member countries over the period 1980-2014 using a gravity model. The estimation results show that the gravity equation fits the data reasonably well. We confirmed the existence of long term relationships between the bilateral trade flows and the main components of gravity model - ...
متن کاملThe Gravity Model and Iran's Trade Flows
This article has considered the volume and direction of Iran’s trade using the gravity model. The major issue in this analysis is to explore why Iran over or under-traded with the 76 countries relative to the predicted trade flows of the model. The study attempts to explore the reasons from the respect of both the model itself and Iran’s trade structure. This is done by analysing the performanc...
